PHJ press release by: Jessica Hein
Gray skies and a blustery north wind couldn’t dampen the spirits of golfers who hit the links February 26 in support of APHA’s Youth scholarship programs. Nearly 25 golfers teed up for the American Paint Horse Foundation’s inaugural Swing for College golf tournament, which took part in conjunction with the 2015 APHA Convention at the Marriott Hotel and Golf Club at Champions Circle in Fort Worth, Texas.
Eight teams took part in the golf tournament, and more than $8,000 was generated for the APHF’s Youth World Show Scholarship fund and General Youth Academic Scholarship fund. In addition to benefitting Paint Horse youth, the golfers also competed for bragging rights and great prizes courtesy of the tournament’s generous sponsors, including a $15,000 hole-in-one contest, Lajitas Golf Resort vacations for the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests and more.
Results of the inaugural APHF Swing for College Golf Tournament include:
First-Place Team (score of 57)—Billy Smith, Floyd Danley, Leon Borcherding, Dave Wiggins
Second-Place Team (score of 60)—Ronny Stallings, Bell Crisp, Larry Milton, Bill Lewis
Longest Drive—Jon Carpenter
Closest to the Pin—Bell Crisp
Plans are already underway for a 2016 APHF golf tournament, though it will likely take place apart from the association’s annual Convention—details about this event will be posted on apha.com. Donations to the APHF scholarship funds are always accepted and it’s a great way to support the future of the association. Donate to the scholarship funds at apha.com/foundation.
