How do I say good bye to something that has literally been apart of my life for the last 27 years of my life!?
I was 10 and Reba was 2 when my parents bought her. Looking back I have no idea why anyone thought buying a young horse for an extremely novice kid was a good idea. But, today I am incredibly sure there was no better idea!
Reba has shaped me into the person I am today. She was not just a horse. She was my best friend. She taught me more lessons than one could think. Most importantly she taught me to work hard and love harder.
Showing Reba I met so many incredible people. She introduced me to the people who would define my life. Through her I found Katie Mercier who then brought Kyle Flatter into my life. Because of her, I have Jenell Crook Pogue and Vanessa Froman who are a part of my everyday life! Every major blessing, every deep friendship, and the family I have today traces its roots right back to her.
She helped me earn a scholarship to be on the University of South Carolina equestrian team! She even got to be a team horse for a short period.
I can remember the very first time we were in the top ten at the youth world in Ft Worth walking out of the pen thinking to myself I will never sell this horse. Here we are 22 years later! The miles and the memories we have shared in our 27 years together are something I will hold close the rest of my life.
I’m not sure how I will walk back into the barn and see your empty stall. No more squealing at every horse that walks by your door. Nobody sticking their head out the door begging for Oreos. I will miss those big floppy ears!
Rest easy sweet girl. I am already looking forward to seeing you again! To me you will ALWAYS be a legend! Thank you for everything!
The Equine Chronicle wishes to extend condolences to the Flatter family, the Froman family, the Pogue barn, and all whose lives were impacted by this spectacular mare.
