A Unanimous Win at the NSBA World Show for The Cooki Monster
A unanimous win at the NSBA World Show, where the best horses in the country and beyond compete, is rare.
However, a few exceptional teams earned unanimous championships in a standout Thursday at the 2026 World Show, and one of those once in a lifetime horses was The Cooki Monster, piloted by owner Susan Roberts.
The duo took the unanimous World Championship title in Maturity Non Pro Western Pleasure in the first class of the day in the Ford Arena after splits and a final.
“She is awesome,” says Susan Roberts of Capital Quarter Horses. “We had such a fun ride. She never gives me any trouble in the pen. No matter how many times we show her, she’s steady and constant every step. And I’m just blessed and proud to own her.”
The secret to “Cher’s” longevity is no secret at all—Susan explains they don’t need to overdo anything with her. “She’s so natural that RJ rides her, but he doesn’t have to ride her forever. We don’t have to get up at night and ride her, and when he gets her ready for me, It doesn’t take but 15 minutes. And I ride just before the class; I don’t drill it, drill it, drill it. I think that’s what makes her stay fresh and like it, is that we just don’t overdo her.”
Cher is content every day, explains Susan. “She’s just a natural mover and we’re just blessed that she’s got a good mind to go with it.”
One would expect such a spectacular mare like Cher to have babies on the ground, and she does, reveals Susan, such as a three-year-old Cody Conover showed, Stoppin For Cookis. “We’re just hoping to get another one just like her, but I don’t think there’s another one. She’s just a blessing to all of us. We just love her. She’s so fun, and kind, kind and sweet and lovable. And if you’ve got cookies, you’re her best friend.”
