A Unanimous Win for Jennifer Dever and PS Gota Good Version – and a Nod to Cindy DeFrancesa
Monday, May 11th at the 2026 AQHA West L1 Championships, Jennifer Dever won a unanimous championship with PS Gota Good Version in Level 1 Select Showmanship.
It wasn’t the only unanimous championship celebrated on Monday, but it may have been one of the most meaningful. Known as “Mom” to both Trusten and Troy Dever, notable youth exhibitors in the industry, Jennifer Dever exited the arena happy but also very emotional. She tearfully shared that last week, Trusten’s and Troy’s previous trainer, Cindy Defrancesca, had passed away.
So their success ended up becoming a tribute win to Cindy with “Elwood,” a 2014 gelding by PS Good Bars Kat and out of Good Version of Pine, bred by Peter Schouweiler. Jennifer explains that it was Trusten and Troy’s involvement due to their grandparents that got her into showing, instead of the other way around.
“My parents got them into riding when they were young,” she reveals. “My parents helped run a small All Breed Association in our hometown, and that’s how the boys really got started riding.”
Though she has ridden some throughout the years, she admits it was never anything serious, and watching her sons enjoy Reid Thomas’ program inspired her. “I saw that there was a pathway for me to compete as well and it’s just fun. Gives me something to do when I’m an empty nester one of these days.”
Elwood, she reveals, loves showmanship, and that’s their main focus right now. “You can just tell he loves it,” Jennifer explains. “When you put on his show halter, he knows it’s time to go to work and he put his ears forward.”
She also says that Monday’s win didn’t change any of her goals, but it “definitely stoked the fire. It just makes me want to keep working hard and doing well at showmanship and trail, which I also like. So it just it just fanned the flame.”
