The final day of The Madness AQHA and NSBA show saw Non-Pro riders take center stage in the Non-Pro Western Pleasure Maturity and the Three Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure Futurity in Wilmington. Both classes offered Rider Bonus awards to Limited and Intermediate riders.
Aubrey Jacobs took her turn aboard Ur Heart Or Mine after Mark Zeitler showed the gelding earlier in the week. The team swept the Non-Pro, Intermediate Non-Pro and Limited Non-Pro divisions of the class, earning $841.50 for the Non-Pro win and added an additional $450 and $250 in Rider Bonuses.
The win is the second major show win for the team who won the Limited and Intermediate Non-Pro divisions as well as reserve Non-Pro award at the A Sudden Impulse Futurity in Ocala in April.
“He’s such as great mover, very natural and we loved everything about him,” Aubrey said of ‘Elway.’ “He’s just a good soul, really good minded. We bought him from the Hatten family last June.”
Aubrey was pleased with her go in the class. “He was behaved and just super soft and did his job. He’s very consistent,” she said.
She noted that although she tends to show futurity horses that she later sells, Elway is growing on her. “The futurities are my favorite. There’s a different type of challenge to it and I like that,” she said. “I have to say Elway is a favorite of mine and he’s going to be hard to sell.”
Aubrey had a large support group to help celebrate her win. “We’re pretty fortunate to be able to come on the road and have my family and my husband RJ’s family at the shows,” she said.
The top five placings in the Open division included:
Champions/Intermediate and Limited Champions: Ur Heart Or Mine, Aubrey Jacobs, $841.50/$250/$450
Reserve champions: Fourmula 1, Brooke DeBuhr, $668.25
Third: J Cool, Becky Galyean for Gil and Becky Galyean, 495.00
Fourth: Gunz N Rosez, Tiffany Pattison for Salt Clay Farms LLC, $247.50
Fifth: Thursty Thursday, Tanya Relander for Steve and Tanya Relander, $222.75
In the Non-Pro Western Pleasure Maturity, Jordan Macan piloted her horse Hay Girl Hayy to win the Non-Pro portion of the class, earning $589.40.
“I’ve had ‘Sasha’ for a year and a half, and she’s five years old now,” Jordan said. “She is just always so consistent and so reliable when you go into the show pen. She honestly makes you feel like you are floating on a cloud. I’ve never had a bad ride on her. She always goes in and shows.
“I remember watching the video when RJ King showed her and won the Maiden three year old class at the A Sudden Impulse at Ocala, and thinking that I wanted a Western Pleasure horse just like that, and I was able to get her. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to own such a great mare.”
Jordan is working toward the AQHYA World Championship Show with more shows to come.
The top five in the class included
Champions: Hay Girl Hayy, Jordan Macan, $589.40
Reserve Champions: The Drinkz R On Me, Chase Hanson for Lyle Hanson, $463.10
Third: Bottle Service, Brayden Stine for Jason and Samantha Stine, $357.85
Fourth: MoneyNeverMadeTheMan, Patty Bogosh, $210.50
Fifth: Cool Liike Me, Debby Brehm, $189.45
Chase Hanson and The Drinkz R On Me swept both the Limited and Intermediate Rider Bonus awards, earning an additional $450 and $250 in addition to their reserve Non-Pro award of $841.50.
‘Cosmo’ also carried Chase’s father, Lyle, to win the Dad’s Walk Trot Western Pleasure on Saturday. “It was kind of a last minute decision for us to enter that, and my dad hasn’t been on a horse in 15 or 20 years, but he had a lot of fun with that because he borrowed my chaps and hat and we wrangled everything together,” Chase explained.
“Cosmo is five years old now, and we bought him as a yearling as the NSBA Yearling Sale. We saw him there and we knew we had to have him. He has quite the interesting personality. He wakes up in the morning and tells you what the rest of your day is going to be. He’s an amazing horse and he’s easy to show. He’s a bit if a T-Rex though because he wants to have you in his mouth all the time or if you have something in your hand he wants to have it.
“He’s so true, and he shows you his natural talent and puts it out there. Katy Jo Zuidema helps us with him, and she does a great job. We wouldn’t be where we are without her.”
