The Dixie National Quarter Horse Show is a wrap with large classes and fun had by all. The show started on February 4th with the Equestrian With Disabilities events. There were 142 AQHA and 116 NSBA entries, our largest show to date. All of the participants had a great time, and a lot of new friends were made.

A special two-judge roping event was held on Tuesday, February 11th with 40 entries in some classes. This year saw the addition of Working Cow Horse and Boxing to the event, therefore allowing for six sets of points during the Dixie. The Dixie National AQHA event began on Wednesday, February 12th with more Roping, Cow Horse, and Boxing continuing with large numbers and the conclusion of Roping classes.

The third annual CC Dubois Memorial Tie Down Roping, sponsored by Elite Custom Saddlery, generously donated custom halters and portfolios to the winners of every roping class at the horse show. This is the third year in a row which Elite Custom Saddlery has donated the Andrew McBeath Memorial High Point Cattle Horse saddle, which was awarded to Bobby Lewis and NamgisD14 owned by Justin Ochs.

Gary Wells Performance Horses along with Carl and Pam McBeath paid out to the fastest time in the youth and amateur tie-down Roping. The Reining and Ranch riding numbers were large with 30 or more exhibitors in the amateur and youth classes.

Our Equine Expo this year was held on the upper level of the Equine Center and outside in their trailers with a variety of vendors and was well received. Thursday included Reining and Ranch Riding classes, which were well attended.

Friday night, the Wendy’s Freestyle Reining was well attended. Jessica Keller won the Non-Pro division, and Sara Lynn Goetz won the open division. We also were treated to a Frosty eating contest, helping to raise money for the two Region 9 Scholarships, the Andrew McBeath Leadership Scholarship and the Swayze Woodruff Memorial Mid South Scholarship. Thanks go out to the fine group of individuals who tried very hard to eat very fast. Elite Custom Saddlery also donated a saddle that was auctioned off and went for $4,000, It was graciously donated back. The youth will sell raffle tickets on it throughout the year. Friday night during Freestyle also saw the Inaugural Mounted Shooting Invitational in which Ray Wilson, Mendenhall, MS was determined the Champion after an exciting double run off.

Friday and Saturday included Trail, Horsemanship, Western Pleasure, Halter, and Western Riding classes. This year, Saturday included our Inaugural Versatility Ranch Horse Event. Our grandparents favorite leadline and stick horse race were also held on Saturday. We concluded on Sunday with our speed events and hunt seat classes.
