AQHA Executive Vice President Craig Huffhines joined AQHA President Stan Weaver, Committee Member Kenneth Banks, First Vice President Butch Wise, Second Vice President Norman Luba, and Committee Member Dr. Scott Myers during three days of meeting to review recommendations from the AQHA Convention. It is very important for owners to understand what puts a horse at risk of PAL or laminitis from an inappropriate diet, even with no pasture access. PAL is linked to elevated insulin responses. The classical appearance of a horse or pony at risk is one that is overweight with an obvious, fatty crest on the neck, but many metabolically abnormal horses have a normal weight. A horse that is older may also develop Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID/Cushing’s disease) and change from one that always tolerated pasture well to one that is now at risk of laminitis.

The Reserve Champion was Aint Too Lazy, ridden by Brad and Carli Pitts for Taylor Leone. The Senior Champion was Hotroddin Ona Harley, ridden by Clint Ainsworth for Meg DePalma Whelan. The Reserve Champion was Sleepin In On Sunday, ridden by Shane Young for Taylor Leone. The Level 1/Green Champion was Fortunateson, ridden by Stephanie Armellini for Sheri Kern. The Reserve Champion was No Time For Sleepin, ridden by Colton Lasusa for Karen Cias.
