2017 Cornhusker Classic Awards Big Checks in NSBA Futurities and Premier Quarter Sires Classes

Many AQHA competitors spent Father’s Day weekend trying to win one of several big checks being awarded at the 2017 Cornhusker Classic that took place in Lincoln, Nebraska, June 14th-18th. Judges for the Nebraska Quarter Horse Association show were Chris Jones, Judd Paul, Brad Jewett, Ryan Kail Sissy Anderson, Buddy Fisher, Gary Wells, Jason Hershberger, Dave Brock, and Gary Putman.

The Cornhusker offered a full slate of AQHA classes in addition to a host of NSBA classes with $1,000, $500, and $250 added money in multiple disciplines like Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Trail, and Horsemanship. Winning the $1,000 added 3-Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure was Mallory Menard with Dunrepeatinmouself ($620.50). The Reserve Champion was Kelly Birkenholtz with Whose Your Bay Bae ($492.75). Third place was Hayley Saul with Lazyboy ($365). Fourth place was Debby Brehm with Whatilikeaboutyou ($182.50). Fifth was Kent Taylor with Don’t Think Twice ($164.25).

In the $1,000 added 3-Year-Old Limited Non Pro Western Pleasure, the Champion was Hayley Saul with Lazyboy ($664). The Reserve Champion was Debby Brehm with Whitilikeaboutyou ($498). Third place was Kara Sisco with Party Favours ($332). Fourth was Lisa Freeman with Extremely Vested ($166).

In the $1,000 added Limited Maturity Western Pleasure, Julie Voge rode Bestdippednchocolate to win $565 as Co-Champion with Jenna Gibbs riding Hot Lopin Cowboy for Bill and Cindy Cosentino. Third place was Jennifer Burton with Surely Sheza Hottie for Danielle Beauchamp, wining $282.50.

Rusty Green rode For One Night Only to win $1,000 added Open Maturity Western Pleasure and $748.50 for Linda Neece. The Reserve Champion was Maggie Grandquist with Rock County Kid for Alex Chavez, winning $499.

The $1,000 Limited $2,500 Novice Horse Western Pleasure saw Angie Cannizzaro ride Cowboyput A Spellon Me and win $635.63 for Fritz Leeman. The Reserve Champion was Travis Duit with Gettin Good, who won $494.38 for Galloping B Ranch, LLC. Third place was Pat Heeley with Good Bars R Special for Megan Punt, winning $282.50.

The winner of the $1,000 added $10,000 Limited Horse Western Pleasure Maturity was Maggie Grandquist with Won Hot Cowgirl for Bill and Cindy Cosentino. The pair won $631. The Reserve Champion was Pasley Puthoff with Gracefully Inviting, winning $473.25 for Janna Corda. Third was Mark Baus with One Twenty, winning $315,50 for Andrea Kengis Foss. Fourth was Jamie Zuidema with Who’s On Fire Now, winning $157.75 for Kaleigh Gaspen.

Brittany Andrews won the $500 3 and 4-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle and $399 with Lukes Good To Me for Angie Highland. The Reserve Champion was Theresa Wills with No Tail Gating, who won $266.00 for Alyssa Beardsley. Tanya Relander rode Certainly Shez Hot to win $1,165 in the $1,000 Added Non Pro Western Pleasure Maturity. Tanya also won the Intermediate Non Pro Western Pleasure and $1,082.50. The Reserve Champion was Linda Neece with For One Night Only.

Pat Heeley rode Whose Your Bay Bae for Kelly Birkenholtz and won $631 in the 3-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure. The Reserve Champion was Mallory Menard with Dunrepeatinmouself, who won $473.25. Third was Shannon Curl with Whatilikeaboutyou, who won $315.50 for Debby Brehm. Fourth was Shannon Vroegh with I’m Fun Sized, who won $157.75 for Ronda Roozeboom. Fifth was Jon Barry with Extremely Vested for Lisa Freeman. Sixth was Tom Forehand with Lopin For Coronas for Joel Miller. Seventh was Rusty Green with Don’t Think Twice for Kent Taylor.

In the 3-Year-Old Intermediate Open Western Pleasure, Mallory Menard won, once again, with Dunrepeatinmouself, taking home $798. The Reserve Champion was Shannon Vroegh with I’m Fun Sized, winning $532 for Ronda Roozeboom. Third was Tom Forehand with Lopin For Coronas for Joel Miller. Fourth was Travis Duit with A Good Made Machine for Laura Spell.

The Cornhusker was also the site of the first leg of the Premier Quarter Sires classes in 2017, which paid out $63,500 in four classes.

Champion – $8,290 and the champion’s buckle from Shea Michelle Buckle Designs – Only Sparks Fly. Sired by One N Only out of All That Bling. Owned by Tracie Petersak and shown by Jennifer Burton.

Reserve Champion – $5,285 – Ticket To Ride. Sired by Allocate Your Assets out of My Two Nieces. Owned by Chav3z Enterprises, LLC and shown Jenna Gibbs.

3rd Place – $3,285 – Lukes Good To Me. Sired by Good I Will Be out of Maid For Luke. Owned by Angie Highland and shown by Brittany Andrews.

4th Place – $2,785 – Al Amony. Sired by Allocate Your Assets out of Sally Sockett. Owned by Jamie Bishop and shown by Kristin Layher,

5th Place – $2,285 – Re Allocate. Sired by Allocate Your Assets out of Maid For Luke. Owned by Mark & Courtney Suzanne Brockmueller and shown by Leslie Vagneur Lange.

6th Place – $1,785 – Betty Hoo. Sired by HOT ONES ONLY out of Boys Move Over. Owned and shown by Jamie Oakley.

7th Place – $1,285 – Lotsa Hot Potential. Sired by One Hot Krymsun out of Lotsa Good Potential. Owned by John Zuidema and shown by Theresa Wills.
