2013 APHA Annual Report- 1,041,100 Horses Registered Since 1962

The American Paint Horse Association recently released the 2013 Annual Report detailing the association’s accomplishments worldwide.

APHA continues to be the second-largest stock horse breed registry in the world, registering the one-millionth American Paint Horse in 2011.

High points from 2013 include:

  • The number of Paint Horses registered in 2013 was a 5 percent increase over 2012.
  • Ride America® enrollments were up in 2013.
  • Total entries in the two World Championship Shows (Youth and Amateur/Open) were up 2 percent, while the total number of horse that competed was up 9 percent.
  • The number of APHA-approved shows rose from 1,126 in 2012 to 1,164 in 2013, an increase of 3 percent.
  • APHA’s new Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program (PBRIP) was introduced in June 2013. At year-end, there were 230 enrollments, 20 PBRIP events had been held, with a total payout of $37,000.
  • APHA’s popular Facebook fan page grew by 93,975 new fans in 2013, ending the year with a total of 173,975 fans.
  • APHA’s YouTube channel, aphavideo, grew an amazing 766 percent, featuring Billy Smith’s biweekly video newscast, “Fresh Paint,” as well as news from both World Shows and APHA in-house videos.
  • APHA MemberCare efficiency increased the total number of Paint Horse registrations processed by 9 percent.
  • Since its organization in 1962, APHA has had 433,063 total Paint Horse owners and 1,041,100 horses registered.
  • The top five states for APHA membership over the last three years remain Texas, California, Oklahoma, Colorado and Florida.

APHA honored its second Hall of Fame class, which included Walter Merrick, Virdin Royse, Ray Graves, Ed Roberts, Wanda Williams, Colonels Smokingun (Gunner), Dixie’s War Drum, Sky Top Bar, Indian Music, and Sky Bar.

In all, APHA experienced many positive changes and continued to watch American Paint Horses excel around the world in 2013.
