12-Year-Old Cash Castle Leads Sheza Queen of Cool to World Championship in 2-Year-Old Mares at 2013 AQHYA World Show

Today’s win wasn’t 12-year-old Cash Castle’s first trip to the winner’s circle. He achieved a Reserve World Championship two years ago at the AQHYA World Show. However, his performance this morning in Two-Year-Old Mares helped him win his first golden globe and World Championship title.

Castle showed Sheza Queen Of Cool, a sorrel mare by Very Cool and out of Tais Awesome Queen. Although this was Castle’s first time showing “Sara,” he says he wasn’t too nervous.

“My sister showed her at the Region 8 show, and then we let her rest until here,” Castle says. “[I was a] little bit nervous. You know how when you walk in you get a little antsy? But after that I just showed how I know how to show and it was fine.”

“She’s really good. She likes to look at a lot of stuff, especially other horses. She did better than I thought she would do.”

Castle’s father and horse trainer, Luke Castle, was on hand with some sage advice before his son entered the pen to compete.

“He said to go out there and show like I know how to and just don’t worry about anyone else,” he says. “[He said] just worry about yourself.”

This was the only class Castle will be competing in here at the 2013 AQHYA World Show, but back at home, he is also a budding calf roper. We asked this ambitious youth if he plans to follow in his father’s footsteps by training halter horses when he grows up or break into the world of competitive calf roping.

“I haven’t thought about that,” he says. “I’d say that after a few more years of showing I’ll think about it.”
