Trainer Blake Weis says Hot Lopin Lily has always been exceptional, and he knew it from the time he helped her make her entrance into the world at Twin Acres Horse Ranch in Missouri.
“I’ve had her pretty much her entire life, and she was foaled out at my mom’s farm, and she’s part of the family,” he explains, noting that he’d also shown the mare’s mom to a Reserve Championship.
“Lily,” the 2017 bay mare by RL Best Of Sudden and out of Shes A Lopin Machine (by a Good Machine) was bred by Twylla Brown and is owned by the Cavallo family, and her list of titles is beyond compare.
In fact, in addition to her accolades like the 2023 AQHA Superhorse, 2021 NSBA Horse of the Year, AQHA World Champion Performance Halter Mares (2023), just to name a few, Lily made history at World Equestrian Center-Ocala on September 13, 2025.
When the results were tallied for the $100,000 Senior Trail at The Championship 2025, Blake and Lily were crowned the champions with a score of 248 on an incredibly challenging course, the highlight of the show.
What’s significant about her achievement, in addition to mastering the course with a field of 17 top-tier teams, is that she won the title in 2024 as well.
Caroline Cavallo, who has claimed her own list of accolades with Lily in the amateur, says the mare is absolutely a once-in-a-lifetime horse. “She’s just amazing. We could never have imagined what we’ve done with her, or what Blake’s done with her. We’re just blessed to have her, blessed to have him. She is a unicorn, and we love her.”
The love for Lily extends well beyond the Cavallo family into the KRT barn, and that affection for her from Blake is evident at the conclusion of each and every event. “For me, it’s very important to have a relationship with all my horses, since ultimately, I love them – that’s why I do this. I have people say to me, ‘oh, you and your mares,’ but I think I’m a mare person and I always have been because I like to have a relationship with my horses. You know – trust.”
It was that very element which was a major factor in guiding them through a jaw-dropping performance on a course featuring more than 80 poles. The course was designed by Tim Kimura, and his vision was brought to life by Garry McAllister and the hardworking World Equestrian Center crew.
Blake says he thought the course was super fun. “It flowed so nicely, and the poles were high this year, so that was really cool. The walks at the end were pretty tricky, especially because they had the plants right there, and one of the ferns blew over and I had to steer her there or I was going to step on it. The whole course was very challenging, but it was very fun – you could find your rhythm and roll through it.”
The major reason the KRT barn always supports this show, choosing it over majors like the Congress, Blake explains, is because the prize money sets the standard. “It’s the way our industry needs to go. Thank God for Mary Roberts, as she’s the visionary knowing where the funds should go, and people need to come support that. That’s my personal opinion.”
As far as Lily is concerned, he says that she’s spicy, she knows when to step up to the plate, and she’s the perfect girl.
Congratulations to Lily and the entire team on adding another jewel in that perfect girl’s crown at WEC-Ocala! Keep scrolling for results through tenth place with scores and payouts.
