APHA State Director Wendell Cummings Passes

An APHA member since 1998 and longtime advocate for the Paint Horse, Wendell served as an APHA state director for many years. He was an active member of the General Show & Contest and World Show Advisory Committees from 2018-2021 and served on the Cattle Event Task Force that began in 2020.

Ranching Heritage Top Horses at AQHA World

Those four horses are AQHA Ranching Heritage-bred horses, and in addition to the awards they won at this prestigious event, they earned special awards as the Top Ranching Heritage-Bred Horse in their division. This recognition comes with a specially designed trophy and a $250 cash prize to both the owner and the breeder.

Since January, 40 American Quarter Horse Youth Association members have recorded their progress training a yearling bred by an American Quarter Horse Association Ranching Heritage Breeder. Recently, four AQHYA members were named scholarship winners for the 2021 AQHA Ranching Heritage Young Horse Development Program.

The 2021 AQHA All-Around Amateur is Morgan Ratkowski of Pleasant View, Tennessee, who showed her American Quarter Horse, Better Buy The Minit. The 2005 bay gelding by Do You Have A Minute and out of Tickle My Asset, was bred by Kramer/Davis of Reddick, Florida. Ratkowski and Better Buy The Minit earned 57 points in the all-around amateur competition. The team earned the amateur world champion titles in working hunter, hunter hack, and equitation over fences and the reserve world champion title in amateur hunt seat equitation.

Megan Waldron of Parker, Colorado, is going into her final year of youth competition in 2019 with some impressive titles already under her belt. This well-rounded rider has already earned a NSBA World Show third place finish in Youth Hunter Under Saddle, Congress Championship in Novice Youth Western Riding, and a Congress Reserve Championship in Youth Hunt Seat Equitation. She has known the thrill of winning and the heartbreak of saying goodbye to a beloved horse that had been her best friend, confidante, and show partner.
