Equestrian Aps for Your iPhone

With categories like entertainment, lifestyle, education, travel, fitness and finance, there is literally an iPhone application for every need imaginable.

After doing a little bit of research, I have discovered that there are hundreds of applications available for the equestrian i-Phone user. So, in an effort to save you some time, I have compiled a list of what I feel to be the best horse-related applications out there.

Practical Use:

Horse Medicine- .99 cents  This unique flash-card application allows you to have the latest horse health information at your finger tips. You can choose from a full index of questions, or utilize the shuffle feature to be quizzed on random topics. An example question might be, “describe the role of antibiotics in the treatment of streptococcus equi in horses.” Also, thanks to some technological marvel, you can actual “flip” the card over to reveal the answer. This is a great ap for the aspiring veterinarian, or someone who just wants to learn more about the health of their horse.

EquiCalc- .99 cents This ap can be used to estimate your horse’s weight based on heart girth and body length. All you have to do is plug in the two numbers and this ap does the calculating for you. It can be used to estimate average weight for a weanling, yearling or full grown horse. This is great when customizing dewormer schedules or administering medication.

Pocket Stable- $9.99 This information organizing system can be used to store vaccination and worming schedules, farrier and dentist appointments, insurance policy information and much more.

Pet Health (Medical Diary and Log) $1.99 This ap can be used to track your pet’s medical information like height, weight and breed. You can also record medications, allergies or microchip numbers.

Riding with a metrinome allows a rider to mark time with a regular tick sound at a predetermined rate. You can choose between a walk, trot or canter and adjust the average beats per minute for each gait. Also, by plugging your iPhone into an arena sound system, you can listen to the tick sounds while you ride.
