This was a very special win for Ann Prince this morning in the WCHA Non-Pro Yearling Stallions Stretch Bradley Memorial Halter Stakes at the 2011 All American Quarter Horse Congress. Prince won the Congress Championship with her home-grown colt, PF Credibly Supreme, who is by her stallion, MH Supremo.
Ann and her husband Chester certainly aren’t newcomers to the Congress, but this is the first time in almost 20 years that they have won with a foal they have bred and raised. And they not only won the Congress bronze this morning, they also bred and raised a yearling stallion who came in third in the Limited division.
“We knew he was pretty special early on, but now he has really come on and is fulfilling the hopes we had for him,” Prince says. “We were fortunate enough to have another foal, a palomino colt that we sold, who was third in the Limited division. It’s kind of sweet when you can raise them yourself.”
PF Credibly Supreme, aka “BJ,” has just won his first Congress title, but he’s not done with the show just yet. He will be competing later this morning in the Amateur Stallions and in the Open Stallions later this week with Prince’s trainer, Dewey Smith.
“It has been a long time since we have had one that was home-grown,” she says. “Back in 94, we had a stallion that won the Yearling Colt Futurity, so it is great to be able to come back again and win with one of your own.”
Ann and Chester are very proud and honored to be able to support a group like the World Conformation Horse Association, that is helping to revive the halter horse industry by focusing on the ideals of conformation and fit-to-purpose.
“With WCHA, I think we are able to focus on the needs of the halter horse industry and what is best for the exhibitors and breeders,” she says. “We showed in the WCHA events last year, and we are glad to be able to support such a great idea and such a nice association that our industry has been needing.”
Prince had to cut this interview short because her other half, Chester, was heading into the pen to compete in the WCHA Non-Pro Yearling Fillies Stretch Bradley Memorial Halter Stakes.
A big congratulations to Ann and Chester Prince on a great start to the halter events at the All American Quarter Horse Congress.
