Among the diagnostic points covered are the necessity for a ‘whole horse’ evaluation that includes assessing range of motion in hand and under saddle on hard and soft surfaces, palpation of tendons and soft tissue, muscular symmetry (atrophy vs. development), flexion tests, way of going through the gaits on straight lines and circles, on contact and a long rein, and overall fit of the girth and saddle.

$3,000 Added Open 5D Barrel Race Coming to AQHA Youth World Show

A $3,000-added open 5D barrel race, open to anyone, is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, in Barn 8 at State Fair Park. Produced by Tri K Barrels, the race will include a $2,500-added open 5D race, a $500-added AQHA side pot and a variety of AQHA-approved classes, including senior, junior, youth, amateur and Select amateur barrel racing. The race is pending approvals by AQHA, Better Barrel Races, the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association and the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association.
